dude why wouldnt you be able to just NOT do a lifeskill???I mean think about it, even in WoW(the grind capitol of the world),you dont ever HAVE to do any life skill. non of them are really required. they are simply there to be interesting, give people something to do, and help make money/useful things.i think its an awesome idea actually. it would help the boredom factor that a lot of people got from factions by giving people random shit to do.

something no one has picked up yet..GW lasting 10 years? cant see it myself..there is only a certain amount of things you can do with a MMO (call it whatever you wish) before it runs out of steam or starts recycling ideas from other games..will GW go sci-fi perhaps..GW in space?
If GW does intend to stay swords and magic then it will die long before 10years is up.
just my opinion..take it or leave it im not fussed

they could have a simple life skill type thing. That would be sweet. Something different and needed especially with no increase in lvl cap ect. I hope they do decide to do that.

If anet is going that route I would suggest reserching pen and paper rpg first.
those things have been around for along time in rpgies pen and paper rpgies. This may also make more gold sinks as well as deep in the rpg. In rpgies they are not called life skills. They are made to ehence the rpg game play.
something that has never been done in any rpg is archaeoloy
any way anything that makes the game more fun. keeps players playing is good.
expanding on the asain theme is good too. We need a kung fu fighter and one handed and two handed sword fighting too. Side note bare handed fighting never start in asia. It started in africa. bare handed fight was perfected by the asians.
I also think charet racing, or any type of racing would be good.
ships would be cool
mini games
owning homes

Now this would probably be the best feature ever added, IMHO. Communication is the reason why a lot of missions fail, and adding a communication tool to Guild Wars would be nice. Usually the players are pretty good I play with, but they may be doing the missions in different ways because as you know there's more than one way to kill a Troll.
However, I wonder if a monthy fee would follow for using it? If that's the case I would probably keep on using our Guild VOIP instead.

Yeah and they should make monsters drop items, but we should not be able to sell them for a profit from farming the monsters "etc because this will be turned into just another way to grind then ppl would start to bitch"

Just my opinion, but I don't see a place or a need for "life skills" in Guild Wars. I like GW because it's different from the other MMOs. Adding "life skills" would make it too similar to many other games, and isn't part of the fun of playing GW, that it IS different? Why do we want the same things in every game? Differentiation is important with such a crowded field, and implementing that type of content just doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective.

static pvp and pve game play will only last so long. Anet needs to do this, to keep players playing the game or suffer losing players. Anet would have to change no matter what. There are alot of game compaies planing on go the way anet is going as a free online game. They to are planing to add more contenttoo.

First, I lived in Japan for 3 years. I'm sorry but no, it's not more Japanese than any other Asian country.. I don't buy that premise. Besides it's not supposed to be China or Japan.. but Cantha, just loosely having some ideas from many Asian cultures.
Second,

What? lol. Do you even have an OS 10 years old that you still use for gaming? This is beside the point. I say lets make GW fun for everyone now. Many people have been asking for Roll play features for as long as GW has been out, not to copy WoW but because they like Roll Play. It's not about need.. It's about fun.. and it doesn't have to ruin the game play of those who don't like such activities. I'm not afraid.
Yes, fishing could be fun. There are a lot of bodies of water. Imagine the opportunities for fishing contests; they could even use this as a lucky/unlucky title event..

I got more of a Chinese feel from factions then Japanese...but I'll agree with Dawn's statement, Cantha was pretty much just Asian influenced. There's only small tiny differences, I'm asian myself, and I dont think its all that big of deal...and now seeing that Nightfalls has an Egyption/Arabian feel...im hoping they will go into many other cultures, maybe native american? or like a voodoo/zulu african feel? there's plenty of rich cultures out there, im hoping they pick a unique one.

The very idea of "life skills" and guildwars disgusts me... go play runescape or some other bore fest game if you want crap like that. I like GW just the way it is.

Sounds good.
However, I was under the impression MMORPGs had been banned, or access to them limited, in China - isn't this the case?

Well seeing as GW is a Corpg........
Some life skills would be good, as long as they dont make them too 'powerful' as in you coudl sell stuff for major profit. If they do it like proffesions, and you can have a primary and secondary skill, like jewller and armour, you could have verynicely decorated armour, which you could sell. They mikght cost alot, but so would the materials and crafting devices. Also, the in-gmae VOIP would be very much appreciated.

Life skills sounds good, those who don't like it are perfectly free to sell their accounts off on eBay and go back to mindless counterstrike.

I think being able to do something in the game while you're between missions or quests would be great. People have mentioned life skills like fishing, cooking , mining and crafting armor. Are those the most common life skills used in mmorpg's ? Are there any other common ones that haven't been mentioned here?
I think crafting armor could cause problems in GW's economy as it is. There would eventually be so many crafters, you'd be able to buy droks level armor as soon as you leave pre-searing for a small amount of gold. Or would GW make the crafting skill a really difficult skill to become good at? How is that handled in other mmorpg's?

Actually I don't really understand your point. Nobody is forcing you to do it, so if everybody else or a large majority of people like the idea, why ruin it? And the way you stated your point, it seems like you are playing Guild Wars out of protest for the other MMO's to change, no offense.

I totally agree, I think people are taking this topic a little too far and using it for their advantage. Hay you know what... the Cantha setting isn't American... we need more American!!!! Where's my cow bell!!!
All I know is when I log into Guild Wars I'm not in Kansas anymore...
